Shingles is an infection that causes a painful rash.
You cannot spread shingles to others. But people could catch chickenpox from you if they have not had chickenpox before or have not had the chickenpox vaccine.
This is because shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus.
Those with shingles are advised to avoid contact with pregnant staff who have not had chickenpox and those with a weakened immune system. They are contagious until the blistered area dries and crusts over. Ideally, areas should remain covered if weeping.
