Hot on the heels of our highly successful HCPA Tech Transformation Event, the eagerly awaited ‘Understanding state of cyber security in adult social care’ report was released by DHSC this week.

  • All the information for this report was taken from responses to a recently completed survey commissioned by the Better Security Better Care programme (over 500 participants)
  • This report talks about how a cyber-attack affects care services and the people they care for.
  • It says that care providers need to be more aware of cyber threats.

Key positives from the report:

  • Care providers were likely to have various rules, controls, policies, and procedures in place to manage cyber security day-to-day and respond to incidents, with over 93% of providers being confident they could avoid harm to service users.
  • Care providers were positive about data protection training and staff awareness on cyber security.
  • Care providers had good awareness of the likely impact of a cyber incident.

The report shows that the government takes cyber security in adult social care very seriously.

It highlights the importance of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) as a key support.

The government is committed to helping care providers manage digital transformation safely.
