One day course at HCPA Campus
This course will give Care Managers and Supervisors the knowledge and skills to engage confidently and compassionately in discussions surrounding sexuality and intimacy for individuals they support. Emphasis is placed on understanding safeguarding principles and positive risk-taking while respecting autonomy. Exploring the barriers, benefits and impact of staff values on understanding sexuality and relationships, clarifying roles, regulations, and legal considerations in all areas of care provision.
Learning objectives:
• Communication Skills: Teaching effective communication strategies to discuss sensitive topics with empathy and respect.
• Understanding Diverse Needs: Recognising and understanding the diverse range of relationships and sexualities among individuals, including LGBTQ+ identities.
• Consent and Boundaries: Educating staff on the importance of consent, boundaries, and personal autonomy.
• Cultural Sensitivity: Addressing cultural differences and their impact on relationships and sexuality.
• Support for Individuals: Recognising signs of those that need support and offering that support appropriately.
• Legal and Ethical Considerations: Understanding legal frameworks and ethical considerations when supporting individuals in matters related to relationships and sexuality.
