This course is suitable for anybody whose role involves Moving & Assisting activities within a social care setting, such as those working in a care home, nursing home, or home care setting.
If you work in health and social care, it is likely you will have to move or assist people as part of your role. Often this will involve the use of specialist equipment such as sliding aids, hoists, slings and handling belts. It is important that you carry out Moving & Assisting activities safely and correctly to prevent the risk of injuries to yourself or others.
The course will provide the information and guidance needed to move and position individuals safely, in a way that promotes their independence, dignity and functional mobility. It also teaches about the importance of risk assessments and the potential hazards involved, along with the key legislation relevant to Moving & Assisting.
Learning objectives:
• Outline current legislation, national guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols in relation to moving and positioning individuals
• Explain anatomy of the spine and types of Injuries and identify how to look after your own back
• Describe how to minimise risk before moving and positioning individuals
• Identify when to seek advice and/or assistance from others when moving and positioning an individual
• Outline how to move and position an individual
