One day course at HCPA Campus
This course explores the meaning of learning disabilities and considers issues closely linked with learning disability support.
These include understanding of how the attitudes and beliefs of others affect individuals. The course introduces themes of inclusion, human rights, advocacy, empowerment and active participation and also considers the central place of partnership in working with individuals.
Learning objectives:
• Explain the significance of a person’s background, culture and experiences when providing care and support
• Outline how to adapt practice to reduce risk of trauma related distress by maximising a person’s feelings of choice, collaboration, trust, empowerment and safety.
• Describe how person-centred thinking and planning can provide insights into care and support approaches and solutions to meeting the needs of people with a learning disability
• Summarise the important role of family and carers in person-centred thinking and planning with people with a learning disability
Delegates are expected to be engaged in learning, participate in all activities including group discussions, and share their own experiences, whilst respecting confidentiality.
