This course will enable Care professionals to take on the role of Champion within their organisation for this topic. The Champion will have a clear understanding of local and national guidance and legislation for and will cascade this information amongst care teams, improving the safety and quality of care for individuals.

Expectations of being a Champion are as follows:
• Share knowledge to staff through team meetings, mentoring and coaching
• Gain topic specific knowledge
• Keep up to date with resources and support via the HCPA Members Zone
• Take responsibility to champion the topic area to ensure the care provider meets best practice standards
• Build strong relationships with professionals
• Support “Better outcomes for the individuals you support” for topic area
• Review Governance of the topic including reviewing and update policies and procedures to meet standards
• Attend yearly CPD and complete reflective accounts to enable revalidation

Selecting your Champion
To help you select your chosen Champion, they will need to:
1. Be a member of staff with authority to mentor staff and work with external partners
2. Have enthusiasm and dedication to promote best practice in the organisation and action change
3. Be committed to multi-disciplinary working, both internally and externally
4. Have confidence and strong communication skills to share information with staff teams via team meetings
5. Have the ability to critically review current governance processes for the topic area

Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the champion role and how this can benefit their organisation
• Understand the process of SMART goal setting and be able to relate this in own place of work
• Understand the benefits of where falls and frailty overlap and the importance of awareness and prevention
• Understand how to identify falls and frailty
• Understand how an individual’s risk of falls and frailty can be assessed, monitored, and reviewed
• Learn the current evidence, legislation and guidance relating to falls and frailty
• Approaches to falls with those living with Dementia
• Understand the difference of dementia and delirium, linking to falls and frailty.
• How to get up from the floor safely after a fall
• Understand the local management of a fall pathway for care homes
• Understand a range of effective interventions to reduce the risk of falls and frailty, linking to physical and mental health.
• Understand why we must evidence enabling care, preventing sedentary behaviour
• Understand where you can find support in the community and the importance of using a multi-disciplinary approach

*Please note: As per our T&C’s, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance, non-completion or late cancellation.
Bookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.
Delegates who are late may not be admitted into the training and a cost incurred
