Welcome to the Care Induction course, a comprehensive five-day programme designed for individuals embarking on a career in care.
This course aims to equip those new to working in care with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to excel as a care professional. Each day focuses on crucial aspects of care, ensuring you are well-prepared to deliver high-quality, person-centred support.

Content:
Day 1: Understanding Your Role and Person-Centred Care
Role of a Care Professional, Duty of Care and Candour
• Gain insight into the responsibilities and expectations of a care professional.
• Learn about the principles of duty of care and candour, and how they apply in everyday practice.
Understanding Person-Centred Care (Hertfordshire Connected Lives)
• Explore the concepts of person-centred care and how they enhance the quality of life for individuals.
• Understand the Hertfordshire Connected Lives approach and its application in care settings.

Day 2: Communication, Information Handling, and Safeguarding
Understanding Communication and Safe Information Handling
• Develop effective communication skills essential for interacting with individuals in care.
• Learn the importance of safe information handling and confidentiality.
Safeguarding Awareness
• Understand the principles of safeguarding and the role of a care professional in protecting vulnerable individuals.
• Recognize the signs of abuse and neglect and know how to report concerns appropriately.

Day 3: Health, Safety, Wellbeing, and Inclusion
Understanding Health, Safety & Wellbeing
• Learn about the health, safety, and wellbeing practices that ensure a safe environment for both care professionals and individuals in care.
• Understand risk assessment and management in care settings.
Maintaining Dignity in Care, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
• Discover the importance of maintaining dignity and respect in care.
• Explore concepts of equality, diversity, and inclusion, and how to promote these values in your practice.

Day 4: Mental Health, Dementia, and Learning Disabilities
Understanding Mental Health, Dementia, Learning Disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Disorder
• Gain knowledge about mental health conditions, dementia, learning disabilities, and Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
• Learn strategies for providing effective support to individuals with these conditions.

Day 5: Nutrition, Oral Health, and Cultural Awareness
Understanding Fluid, Nutrition, and Oral Health
• Understand the importance of proper nutrition, hydration, and oral health in overall wellbeing.
• Learn how to support individuals in maintaining these aspects of health.
Cultural Awareness
• Develop awareness of cultural differences and their impact on care.
• Learn to provide culturally sensitive care that respects and values diversity.

*Please note: As per our T&C’s, this course carries a fee in the event of non-attendance, non-completion or late cancellation.
Bookings of more than two delegates per site may be amended to allow access to all member organisations at the discretion of HCPA.
