This comprehensive course will provide participants with the necessary skills to recognise and manage patient deterioration effectively. By the end of the session, participants will have a clear understanding of deterioration and the soft signs indicating health deterioration. They will become familiar with essential documents like the RESTORE2 and NEWS2 forms, understanding their significance in patient assessment. Through discussions and practical activities, participants will learn how to complete basic observations and interpret vital signs accurately, distinguishing between normal and abnormal parameters. The course emphasises the use of effective communication tools like SBARD and documentation practices. Practical elements, including hands-on activities and group work with case studies, will reinforce learning and facilitate feedback.

Learning objectives:
• Define deterioration.
• Be familiar with the RESTORE2 document.
• Recognise soft signs of health deterioration.
• Understand the identified elements within the NEWS2 system for patient assessment.
• Know how to practically complete basic observations.
• Have an awareness of normal and abnormal parameters of vital signs.
• Understand how to use the NEWS2 and/or RESTORE2 assessment chart and plan of actions.
• Recognise tools for effective communication SBARD and documentation.
