Who is the training aimed at?
Health workforce Social care workforce Nurses Family, parent, sibling carers and personal assistants of people who need care Any person who requires a general awareness of assisting and moving people.
Course Learning Outcomes:
List the relevant legislation and state how this relates to safe moving and handling/positioning The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) LOLER (lifting operations & lifting equipment regulations), PUWA (provision & use of work equipment regulations)
Understand your company Policy
Describe manual handling risk factors and how injuries can occur
Explain your own responsibilities under local organizational policies for moving and handling/positioning
Describe an ergonomic approach to manual handling and other work tasks leading to improved working posture
Explain the main principles of safer handling including good back care to promote general musculoskeletal health
Give examples of suitable risk control strategies, resources, and support available to facilitate good practice following a risk assessment appropriate to the staff member’s role.
Explain the basic anatomy and physiology of movement List the main types of equipment and describe how these are used
Demonstrate the following manoeuvres: Chair to standing moves and transfers Bed/chair/toilet moves and transfers Managing the falling/fallen patient
What resources would be made available to the course attendees?
Attendees will receive: Handouts Practice Tools and Resources Certificate of Completion
How will it look like on the day? The training session will be interactive, and will offer a fully immersive learning experience that is enhanced by small group learning. All learners will have the opportunity to engage directly with the trainers, take part in interactive activities and share learning with others in focused discussions
