In light of recent concerns raised about the care for people with a learning disability and/or autism, who may also have a mental health problem, the CQC has written to providers asking them to consider how they are ensuring that the people for whose care they are responsible are receiving safe, high-quality care.

The letter covers:

  • Their plans to strengthen their assessment of mental health and learning disability wards
  • An update on their thematic review on restraint, segregation and seclusion
  • The action they’ve taken since the BBC Panorama on the abusive culture at Whorlton Hall
  • The importance of a human rights-based approach to care.
