Fully funded workshops with HCPA
We are running 90-minute Care Home workshops on Influenza Outbreaks, Vaccinations and Infection Control in order to help care homes staff prepare for the winter.
Fully funded by Hertfordshire County Council, we aim to improve your understanding of prevention and management of respiratory infection outbreaks in care homes, and to minimise the impact of respiratory infection outbreaks of both staff and residents in care homes within Hertfordshire
Objectives:
- Discover the new process for swabbing residents with suspected influenza, including the prescription of preventative antiviral medication to those who may be in contact with residents if cases are confirmed
- Understand how the implications of respiratory infections can have an impact on the health and well-being of residents
- Develop a common understanding of the rationale for flu vaccination, and how vaccines can be obtained for both residents and staff
- Understand the definition of an outbreak
- Know how a home can recognise a potential outbreak at an early stage, and explain how this should be reported
- Discuss Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures required to prevent the spread of respiratory infections within the home
Care Home staff will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding the management of flu in the care homes where they work
