As you are aware, all over 65s “at risk of flu” are eligible for a Fully Funded flu vaccine. Most under 65s who are in care homes would be in an “at risk” category, and all people with learning disabilities are eligible for the flu vaccine.
Hopefully, by this point in the flu season Care Homes and GP Practices will have already worked together to agree a plan to vaccinate residents early in the flu season. If pharmacists have agreed plans with your Care Home to carry out vaccinations please ensure that the GP Practice is made aware of your plans.
Home Care Providers
If you are a Home Care provider please ensure that all staff coming in contact with patients are informed about the flu vaccine programme. All over 65s, under 65s in at risk groups and people with learning disabilities, as well as carers, are entitled to a Fully Funded vaccine.
Please remind staff of the importance of having the flu jab and pass on the message to eligible patients, their families and carers.
Patients can be signposted to their GP surgery or participating pharmacist to receive the Fully Funded vaccine. Front-line health and social care workers are also entitled to a flu jab and it is the employer’s responsibility to arrange and pay for this vaccine.
