The number of Cyber-attacks is increasing across the health and social care sector.

Given the highly sensitive nature of data held by adult social care organisations, including financial and medical information, one of the most significant risks they face is ransomware. Cybercriminals often deceive individuals into downloading malware through links and attachments, granting them unauthorised access to systems that hold important data.

In response, the government has launched a consultation, open until the 8th of April 2025, aimed at facilitating easier reporting, providing better support for targeted organisations, and implementing prevention measures.

This initiative seeks to assist organisations that pay the ransom under the false belief that their data will be returned. However, it is widely acknowledged that paying the ransom offers no guarantee that the stolen data will not be made public.
