This course empowers managers to build a compassionate and proactive dementia care culture. Key areas include myth-busting, understanding unconscious bias, and challenging outdated perceptions. You’ll learn essential skills in person-centred care aligned with CQC standards and explore how dementia care has evolved over the past decade. Dive into proactive care strategies, including Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), effective documentation, therapeutic observations, and spotting early signs of deterioration. The course also highlights the importance of comprehensive staff training, linking to NICE, SCIE, and national dementia strategies.
Learning objectives:
• Describe common myths in dementia care and how to challenge them
• Understand the changes in dementia care and how to future proof services
• Explain person centred care and its importance for staff, service users, commissioners and regulators
• Understand the importance of a proactive approach and how to embed positive behavioural support
• Deepen knowledge of specific skills in dementia care including Therapeutic observation (1:1), spotting deterioration and good practice in documentation
