Who should attend the Level 5 MCA and DOLS for Managers Course?
This course is suitable for leaders of adult care settings who are involved in day-to-day service delivery. Attendees on the course should already have a working knowledge of safeguarding/MCA and DOLS and should have leadership responsibility in their workplace. This course is mapped to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care.

Explore case law and its implications for practice Consider the challenges of ‘executive capacity’
Identify quality processes that support best practice in capacity assessments

What resources would be made available to the course attendees?
Attendees will receive: Handouts Practice Tools and Resources Safeguarding Adults Board Forum – This is a private group hosted by 1Stop, where leaders of different services nationwide come together to talk all things safeguarding, share best practice and ask questions.

Course Learning Outcomes:
– Analyse the legislative framework including codes of practice in relation to the provision of care and support
– Describe how the principles of the mental capacity act support and guide assessment, support planning and the provision of care and treatment Identify best practice in capacity assessment including how and when to seek support
– Describe a range of approaches that maximise a person’s capacity to make decisions about care and treatment
– Explain how to identify arising and accumulating risk, linking this to capacity assessment, residual risk and defensible decision making
– Define the term ‘restrictive practices’ and ‘deprivation of liberty’
– Explain how to meet the legal requirements in relation to ‘restrictive practices’ and ‘deprivations of liberty’ within service provision Identify when the threshold for deprivation of liberty may be met, and action to take for lawful practice
– Describe the role of partnership working in relation to best interest decisions
– Explain how to evidence ‘appropriate’ and ‘proportionate’ restrictions that maximise a Person’s rights and freedoms
– Analyse how case law drives current practice in relation to capacity, consent and the provision of care and support
