Entry requirements: Prior to attending this course, delegates must have completed the pre-learning module Introduction to Prevalence and Types of Dementia
This course provides all staff with essential knowledge and skills for supporting individuals with dementia. Participants recap material from pre-learning regarding the types and prevalence of dementia and engage in practical care strategies focusing on effective communication, care planning, incorporating life stories, and achieving positive outcomes. The session includes an introduction to Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) and highlights the importance of using the dementia checklist in daily practice.
Learning objectives:
• Describe the critical role of person-centred support and the principles that underpin good practice.
• Explain the significance of personalisation tools, advanced care planning, and lifework history in enabling people living with Dementia to live well.
• Understand the fundamentals of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and how to implement behaviour support interventions for people living with Dementia
• Understand the importance of effective communication in Dementia care and recognise the relationship between communication, interaction, and behaviour.
• Describe the value of effective collaboration and involvement of families, support networks, and community services in the care and support of people living with Dementia.
