This introduction to Diabetes will allow delegates to explore all aspects of the condition. Delegates will develop the knowledge and skills to compile effective care and support plans and risk assessments, utilising management tools to enable confident and competent care to be given. Additionally, delegates will learn how to identify diabetic emergencies and respond appropriately.
Learning objectives:
• Identify diabetes types and risk factors
• Describe signs and symptoms of diabetes
• Identify diabetic emergencies and how to respond to them
• Identify a range of management options including lifestyle
• State the differences between hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia
• Examine the links between diabetes and other conditions
• Explain why person-centred care and risk assessment are essential to good diabetes management
• Describe how to work safely when monitoring individuals with diabetes
• Describe the different dietary needs of a diabetic person who is overweight, underweight or at the end of life
• List the different medical treatments for diabetes
